Understanding the grammatical gender of household terms in German is essential for correct article usage:

Das (neuter) is used for compounds ending in -zimmer (e.g., das Schlafzimmer, das Wohnzimmer, das Badezimmer) as well as das Haus.
Die (feminine) applies to core structures like die Küche, die Tür, die Wand, and die Treppe.
Der (masculine) is common for spaces and fixtures like der Garten, der Flur, der Keller, and der Balkon.

While both refer to a place where someone lives, they have specific distinctions:

Das Haus refers to an entire standalone building (a house).
Die Wohnung refers specifically to an apartment or flat within a larger residential building.
When talking about 'home' in general, Germans say nach Hause (going home) or zu Hause (at home).
